The filmmaker’s perspective.
I wrote #Actorslife from a place many of us know. That feeling of giving things a proper go, copping rejection, and slowly wondering how much belief you’ve got left. This film is about those quiet knockbacks that don’t always come with drama, but still hit hard. The adult in the story is worn down by it all. The child is dealing with being singled out at school, learning early how cruel the world can be.Different ages, different lives, same ache. When they cross paths, nothing flashy happens. No big speeches. Just a moment of recognition. Of being seen without judgement. That moment sits somewhere between real and imagined, because sometimes imagination is the only thing keeping us upright.I wanted this film to feel honest and close, like a yarn rather than a lesson. Grounded, human, and a bit rough around the edges.#Actorslife is for anyone who’s felt overlooked, pushed aside, or told “no” one too many times. It’s a reminder that belief doesn’t disappear all at once, and that sometimes, it only takes one unexpected moment to bring it back.
When Warren first came to me with his idea for #ActorsLife, I was a little surprised. Up until then, most of my work had been in events and corporate videos, so stepping into something more cinematic was well outside my comfort zone.We ended up co-directing it together, and it’s something I’ll remember for a long time. Knowing that parts of this story came from Warren’s real life made it even more meaningful.I’ve helped Warren with auditions over the years, so I’ve seen firsthand how much acting and storytelling mean to him. This film feels like an extension of that journey. Wanting something deeply, giving it your all, and still having life throw obstacles in the way.At its core, my takeaway from #ActorsLife is about recognising someone when they need it most. In this case, helping a child realise that being different isn’t a flaw. It’s something to be embraced, not hidden.I’m really grateful to have been part of this project and to have shared the experience with everyone involved.
